Logan Lake

Bitter Jester Music Festival Judge

2019 Bitter Jester Runner-Up & Drummer of the Year

Logan Lake began playing drums at age eight and quickly developed a deep commitment to the instrument. Many years later, that dedication continues to shape his career as a working drummer.

Logan studied under respected Chicago drum educator Joe Varhula for roughly a decade. During that time he performed in school band programs and built a strong foundation in jazz before gradually expanding into other styles. His experience in high school drumline sparked an interest in the drum corps world and ultimately led him to audition for Drum Corps International (DCI). DCI represents the absolute highest competitive level of marching music, bringing together the most elite performers from around the world in a touring championship format.

In 2021, Logan earned the drum set position with Carolina Crown, one of DCI’s most accomplished corps. He returned for the 2022 season, performing in a nationwide tour that reached hundreds of thousands of audience members, including championship events at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Now, Logan performs actively across the United States with a primary focus on the Chicagoland region. He works with multiple artists and bands, performing a wide range of styles including Gospel, Rock, Country, Contemporary Christian, Fusion, Blues, and R&B. His playing emphasizes strong groove, pocket, tasteful chops,m and musical support of the ensemble. He also performs exclusively using a single-bass pedal approach.

Logan has performed on stages opening for artists such as Eric Church and Ashley McBryde while backing country artist Eric Chesser. He also recently performed as the drummer backing The Blues Brothers at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., joining the performance at the invitation of musician Adem Dalipi.

“As a Bitter Jester veteran, be as authentic as you can to your project while being as open as you can to constructive criticism from the Judges. Just do your best, have fun, meet people, and network with as many people as possible… because remember: that’s the real prize.”

He has also studied with acclaimed drummer Tony Royster Jr., known for his work with artists including Jay-Z, Katy Perry, and Ariana Grande.

Alongside his performance career, Logan is interested in contributing to the music community through adjudication and mentorship. Drawing on years of training and live performance experience, he brings a focused ear for rhythm, groove, and ensemble cohesion.

Logan’s goal is to provide constructive feedback that helps developing musicians strengthen their rhythmic foundation and continue growing as performers.
