Kate Larson

Bitter Jester Music Festival Judge

Kate Larson is a three-time performer and two-time Band Liaison for Bitter Jester Music Festival, now returning as a judge!

“Bitter Jester Music Festival has created a home in the Midwest for young musicians everywhere. There is so much joy and love for each other in these competitions; it’s a special thing to be a part of.”

- Kate Larson

Kate grew up in the Chicago area and began performing music in 2018, when she travelled to Nashville, TN to perform at her first open-mic. She continued to perform around Chicago, and first joined Bitter Jester Music Festival for their original song competition during the pandemic years, and later for live, solo performances on vocals and guitar for two summers.

Kate’s musical background is as a vocalist and songwriter, which she took lessons in growing up; she has long-cherished the way music brings people together and offers a way for them to share their stories. In 2023, Kate joined the Bitter Jester team in a new capacity, as a Band Liaison, where she worked with performers and bands first-hand.

In 2024, she moved from the Midwest to attend the University of Connecticut, where she is currently pursuing a degree in Chemistry with a minor in Climate Science. Kate is currently an undergraduate researcher in a synthetic organic and inorganic chemistry research lab, where she makes molecules! When she’s not in the lab, Kate spends her time working at the university’s Office of Sustainability, where she leads data analysis and outreach initiatives rooted in progressing the university’s sustainability goals. She plans to attend graduate school and pursue a career in academia, using chemistry as a means of studying environmental change.

Kate still loves music and art, and finds it one of the best ways to stay connected to her community in Chicago and the Midwest. To Kate, Bitter Jester Music Festival will always be a second family.
