Bitter Jester Music Festival Judge
Devina Boughton (they/them) is a versatile trumpet player, vocalist, composer and pedagogue hailing from rainy Portland, OR and currently based in Helsinki, Finland.
After completing a Bachelors of Music from Berklee College of Music, Devina was a 2021-22 Fulbright Finland Grant recipient. They began a Master’s Degree at Sibelius Academy’s Global Music Department in Fall, 2023, and are also a current Microtonal Music Studios resident with Myymälä2 in Helsinki, Finland. Devina works both in Finland and internationally as a freelancer (Celenka, Kietoutumo, Etanavalaat) and is the Artistic Director for Symbiosis Choir.
Devina explores and intertwines different genres, building sound worlds that play with and cross borders between improvisation and composition.
They are currently inspired by timbres, nature and technology, human experiences and stories and are passionate about interdisciplinary and cross-genre collaboration. Summer, 2024, saw Devina performing on Finland`s biggest rock stages (Ilosaari, BLOCK fest, Flow Festival, Ruisrock) as a part of Ege Zulu Orchestre supporting Finnish rapper Ege Zulu.
In the fall they went with collective Kultapiisku (Goldenrod) to Ciechanowiec Poland to play in a festival/competition of shepherds horns, so Devina likes to keep their musical interests varied.
You may find them drinking coffee or tea, reading, exploring nature, practicing Finnish, Polish, and Swedish, baking, or plotting their next knitting project. More info about Devina can be found here (or come say hello in person at the Bitter Jester music Fest this summer)!
Devina Boughton (they/them) on monipuolinen trumpetisti, laulaja, säveltäjä, sekä musiikinopettaja syntynyt sateisessa Portlandissa Oregonissa. Nyt hän asustelee Helsingissä. Devina on valmistunut kandidaatiksi Berklee College of Musicista. Tämän jälkeen hän opiskeli Sibelius-Akatemialla saatuaan Fulbright-säätiön stipendin turvin. Devina tutkii ja kietoo erilaisia genrejä, rakentaa äänivärejä ja -maisemia, jotka leikkivät improvisoinnin ja säveltämisen rajojen kanssa.
Nykyään hän saa inspiraatiota toisista ihmisistä, luonnosta ja teknologiasta, olemisen olemuksesta ja tarinoista. Poikkitaiteellinen työskentely ja yhteistyö on Devinalle erityisen tärkeää. Hän alkoi maisteritutkinnon opiskeleminen Sibelius-Akademin globalmusiikinosastolla syksyllä 2023. Hän voi löytyy kahvin tai teen juomisessa, luonnon haahuilemassa, leipomisessa, suomenkielen harjoittelemassa, tai keksimässä joku käsityön hommaa.
